About

Our Story

Our story began with our family facing what many families before us and since have had to face.
At 20 weeks into gestation, Miracle Max was diagnosed “HLHS” Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which occurs when parts of  the left side of the heart don’t develop completely.  Since his birth (at 35 1/2 weeks) Max has endured many  complications & medical procedures, including, Three open Heart Surgeries and over 45 other Surgeries.

The summer of 2011, when Miracle Max was only six years old,  We dealt head-on with an urgent medical condition that threatened Max’s life.  He was in the ICU for four months, on ECMO for 21 days, suffered heart, lung, kidney and liver failure.  About half of his stomach was resected and part of his small intestine.  Max continues to fail to thrive.  He doesn’t absorb enough food to survive so he has a feeding tube for supplemental feedings.

But through it all, Max flourishes – teaching us to enjoy LIVING.  Max enjoys playing soccer, swimming, video games, boating, boat racing, dirt biking, ATVing and traveling.

In other words, he is a Courageous Adventurer… and the inspiration for our mission.

Our Goal
Our intention is to go beyond taking kids to movies, ballgames, etc.  where they are spectators. We get the child with the life-threatening condition involved in more Adventurous Activities.

A Word From The Founder
Max Brabb

I am involved in several groups like The Ticker Club,  Courageous Kids etc.
I have enjoyed going to ball games, picnics, movies & races with the other kids with Life threatening illness’.  However, My family has encouraged me to be more active and adventurous.
I have been able to drive stand-up jet skis, boats, tractors, wave runners, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, quad runners, go carts, mini bikes, trucks, tractors and even fly airplanes.

We have shared some of the activities with friends who also have life threatening illness’.  I founded Courageous Adventures to encourage and inspire the kids and their families to participate in Courageous Activities.
We are sponsoring the opportunity to race boats starting at age 9 with no age limit Internationally.

Life is Always to be Lived
Courageous Adventures was created with the sole goal of inspiring and challenging children with life-threatening illnesses and medical conditions to excel beyond expected norms and LIVE. We plan exciting activities and events that not only get these wonderful children a chance to focus on something new and fun, but also provides families with a great way to bond & just enjoy the moment.
